All Stars Weekly Wrap-up – Wednesday 21 October 2015

U16 All Stars

newsXpress on westAfter a false start last week with games cancelled due to the weather, the girls were all champing at the bit to play this week. Given that this was the 1st time the girls had played together, we went into the game with 3 goals – to make sure that the 1st 3 rucks were hard and put the defence on the back foot, slide in defence and to have some fun. The girls played great. The rucking from the middle and links enabled us to spread the ball and in defence our wings covered well and we were able to shut down as required. At half time we had the lead. Coming into the second half we set ourselves the goal of not allowing any tries which we were able to achieve (mostly). Late in the second half legs became tired but they held on for a great 1st up win. It was so impressive how they were able to form partnerships in the 1st game and looking forward to practice on Tuesday to build on this start.

U16 Sharks

u16 girls sharks 201516 Girls played their first touch game for the season on Wednesday night after being rained out last week.  The majority of this team remain from last season with a few new additions.  It was always looking to be a very good team but WOW!!!  What a display of excellent ball control, driving rucking and solid defence.  We were concentrating on rucking, ball movement and quick phase play in training this week and this team brought all of these areas on Wednesday night.  Our opposition, struggled to gain ground and score tries due to the exceptional defence displayed.  Ada, Gabby, Jordanna and Jade led by example when rucking the ball to our line.  Solid back up and ball skills were provided by Chloe, Tia, Teah and Jaimee.  Our wingers excelled in this game by some awesome running onto the ball hard and fast finishing off for the team.  A very solid first up win resulted.  We look forward to seeing how these young ladies continue to work well together throughout the season.

Enwise Electrical and RefigerationOur flagship boy’s team started the season in great form leading most of the game but falling to a late try for a 5-5 draw with Tigers.  Good result with some players unavailable this week.  Well done to Finn and Brad who were dangerous in attack and Jacob who scored a double.  Great debut games by Harry, Tristan and Gabby.  Solid game in the links by Thomas and some great saves by James when needed.  Lachlan gave his all and will be fitter for the run.
