All Stars Weekly Wrap-Up – Friday 16 October, 2015

U8 Dorys

Enwise Electrical and RefigerationThe girls have had a good start to the season. They have not played touch before, but we had a great first training run with girls working on rucking forward and getting to acting half. They all have great ball skills in catching and passing. They are very rusty on defence, so that is what we will be working on over the next couple of weeks.

U8 Scooters

U8 ScootersFriday night saw the Scooters play Lions – a battle of skill and speed. Both teams played well with Charlie, Blake and Riley running the ball from one end of the field to the other. Scooters played well and learnt that two passes to a team mate out wide helped the team to score. Jimmy and James passed some quick fire passes to their winger for a try. Austin and Alex worked hard in the middle, rucking up the centre of the field. Scooters love playing and having fun!

U10 Rainbows

newsXpress on westThe All Star U10 Rainbows have started the season in magical form.  With Chloe, Naomi and Grace rucking well and Macey, Emily D and Charlotte running wide, we are attacking well. Our defense, with Hannah, Sophie and Emily B leading the way, is solid and it is pleasing to see the girls keeping the “D” line and not congregating around the ball.

However the most pleasing aspect of the game was when the girls received a change over, took three quick rucks and swung the ball wide to the winger who scored in the corner. It brought a tear to the coach’s eye to see such teamwork.

 U10 Darts

The boys have had a great start to the season. They have not played as a team before, but are really starting to work well supporting each other in attack and defence. The boys played Rebels who rucked well, however the boys matched them, by defending well and were able to score some outstanding tries. Great job boys!

U10 Mermaids

Crackerjack Chicken

The Mermaids are learning lots of new touch skills this season.  Moving up to U10 for over half the team has provide a new challenge.  The team has definitely developed extremely well with their defence, with Alana and Georgia preventing many tries around the wing.  Millie has picked up the game like a pro and performed some beautiful rucking throughout our game.  Freya, Ansis and Caitlin our three older girls, provided steady attack and defence.  Harriet scored two tries, showing her developing speed and vision of the game.  The girls have shown wonderful teamwork and always have smiles on their faces win or lose.  We are all looking forward to a spectacular season of touch!

U12 Gems

This is the third year that I’ve coached the Gems. I’m amazed how they have come together as a team in 2015 and how much they have matured. They are now realising their potential as a group and not just running one out as individuals. I’m expecting many great things of the Gems in 2015/6.

U12 Reefsharks

All StarsThe Reefsharks have been given a couple of extra players this year. In their first game they played many of the under 12 Twisters players and held their own. In fact they drew the second half. They have learnt what to expect in division 1 and I’m confident we can match any team in the competition.

U14 Freshies

The Freshies had a bye in round 1 – you could not tell as they outplayed their opposition on Friday night and only let 1 try in. They have a mixture of year 6 and 7 girls from 2 schools and I’m sure they will develop as touch players as the season progresses.

U14 Surfers

All Stars

Our All Stars Surfers played their second game for the season last Friday night against Glennie.  The team had come off a win the week before where a very courageous group of 6 played with no subs and still managed the win.  At training we have focussed on rucking with intensity and purpose and this was our major aim for our game Friday night.  We successfully achieved this goal making solid ground every time there was a changeover and we had the ball.  Strong runs from Izzy, Lucy, Nina and Demi consistently allowed some good hit wraps with good offloads for Georgia, Julia, Molly and Emily.  Our wingers Bella and Emily stayed on and strong the entire game with some great finishing tries.  Solid defence kept Glennie at one try per half.  A great season of learning is ahead for this great group of young ladies.
