All Stars Weekly Wrap-up

Friday, 31 January 2014

Thanks to our wonderful All Stars sponsors - Crackerjack Chicken!U8 Mermaids

The Mermaids have made a lot of progress throughout their first season of playing touch.  We have been working really hard on putting our hand out and placing the ball between our legs when we are rucking.  With defence, we have been working on our brick wall concept (staying spread out and not just chasing the ball everywhere). On Friday night Gracie, Claire, Amelia and Harriet stopped some certain tries with their determined defence.  Freya, Anais, Emily and Georgia were stars at rucking and Charlotte our experienced player (the only one that had played before) knew how important it was that we have an acting half.  The girls are playing extremely well as a team and it is a pleasure to see their smiling faces each week for training and a game of touch, no matter what the weather brings!

U8 Hammerheads

This young team of boys are really combining well as a team.  Friday night’s game against Lions was a great game with a great team display especially learning to draw and pass. The team defence is also a highlight with the younger players of the team leading the defence in the middle and the older boys covering the faster opposition. Keep up the great work guys.

U10 Surfers

It was great to have Team Surfers back after the Christmas break and wonderful to see all of them turn up with smiles and keen to go.  Just before the break we had been concentrating on making sure our first 3 rucks were knocking over the walls up the middle and on Friday they did not disappoint.

Molly, Emmerson, Hattie, Katie, Giorgia, Ruby, Izzie played beautifully.  Not only did they have a lot of fun, ran well up the middle but their defense was outstanding.  Great work girls!

U12 Crocs

All StarsAll Star Crocs unfortunately started the second part of the season with a forfeit from our opposing team. The boys are very keen to get back on the field and start playing again, the forfeit last week will only make them more excited for next week’s game. The team continues to work on a solid drive pattern to get out of trouble and the discipline of consistently getting the ball on the mark to achieve this. Over the next few weeks the Crocs will play the top three teams in the division. We learnt a lot about the skills needed to match those teams in the first part of the year and we look forward to measuring our improvement against them in the future rounds.

U12 Jaws

Another great display here from these girls. From a team of 9 that has only one player that has played before they are enjoying a very successful season. They displayed great skill in attack being lead by the middles and brilliant finishing skills of the links and wingers. Their defence was also a highlight as they learnt to attack in defence which placed their opposition under pressure. Keep up the great effort girls.
